Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Virunga National Park from Kigali, Rwanda
Pick up from any agreed point in Rwanda and particularly Kigali city by our Nyumbu Beyond Journeys guide who will take you through guidelines and what you expect to see while on this short tour to the mighty Virunga national park.
You will straight away drive towards eastern DR Congo and this is where the park is located. Pass at the border of Goma where you will go through the immigration procedures and in case you don’t have some travel documents, the guide driver will help you to acquire some and then find your way to the lodge.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking adventure
Wake up early in the morning to enjoy breakfast and get into your gorilla trekking attire ready to trek the mountain gorillas of Virunga. The highlight of your safari is meeting the gentle giants of Virunga National Park. Hikers will especially love the trekking in the ecosystem of the park.
The trek takes 3-4 hours, depending on where you find the gorillas. The park ranger will interpret the flora and fauna and the lifestyle of the gorillas. Once you find the gorillas, you will be allowed to spend one hour with them. After, trek back to the offices where you will meet the safari guide-driver that will take you back to the lodge for leisure since the overall experience can take about 2 to 6 hours while in the forest.
Day 3: Transfer back to Kigali, Rwanda and departure
After breakfast early in the morning and transfer to Rwanda, crossing through Goma border if time allows or depending on your flight time, have a short city tour in Kigali where you will encounter places like genocide memorial center, local markets, craft / art centres and then taste on the local dishes. Be dropped off at Kigali international airport and this will be the end of your tour to Virunga national park, D.R. Congo.
