Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival at Entebbe International Airport
On arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be met by our Nyumbu Beyond Journeys safari guide who will transfer you to hotel in Entebbe. We have several optional activities around Entebbe that you could engage in depending on your flight arrival time and these include; a day trip to Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary, birding at the botanical gardens and for keen birders, a visit Mabamba swamp to catch sight of the rare shoebill and plenty of other bird species is a must see.
Day 2: Fly into Kihihi Airstrip & Local School and enjoy a local community tour.
Enjoy an early breakfast and transfer to airport for your domestic flight to Kihihi. Flight time is approximated 1 hour.
On your arrival in Kihihi you will be welcomed by an expert guide and head for a community tour that includes a visit to a coffee farm. At the coffee farm, you will have the opportunity to learn about the sustainable farming practices in the Bwindi highlands which is a great way to promote social change through ecotourism.
After the tour, you will transfer to the Lodge arriving in time for lunch & time to enjoy panoramic views of the Bwindi Forest. A recently proclaimed World Heritage site, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is one of the most biologically diverse areas on earth and its unique, precious flora sustains roughly half of the world population of mountain gorillas – believed to number just 600. There’s also a substantial chimpanzee population and research shows that Bwindi is the only forest in Africa in which these two apes live together.
Day 3: Gorilla Trekking Experience
Following an early breakfast at the lodge, you will drive to the park headquarters for a morning briefing from the rangers before you enter the gorilla sanctuary.
Throughout the trek, you will be accompanied by experienced guides and trackers who will offer insightful information about the endangered mountain gorillas. Once you have found the gorillas, you will be allowed to spend 1 hour observing them from a 10-meter distance. The thrill of your encounter will erase the difficulties of the potentially strenuous trek.
Each encounter is different and has its own rewards, but you are likely to enjoy the close view of adults feeding, grooming, and resting as the youngster’s frolic and swing from vines in a delightfully playful display. After tracking transfer back to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Flight to Entebbe
After an early breakfast, depart Bwindi to Kihihi Airstrip for your scheduled flight back to Entebbe International Airport.
