Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Karibu Kenya, Arrival in Nairobi
You will be welcomed off your flight at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by our Nyumbu Beyond Journeys and transferred to your Nairobi hotel for your overnight stay before getting out and about on your safari excursions. Take this opportunity to relax, recoup and recover from your flight. If time permits, we can arrange a visit to the Giraffe Centre or a game drive in Nairobi National Park (at an extra cost). The city also offers a wide range of restaurants and craft shops to explore.
DAY 2: Fly to Samburu National Reserve
This morning, after breakfast, you will be driven to the airport for your flight to Samburu. On arrival, a guide from the camp will meet you at the airstrip and then game-drive you back to camp, offering the perfect introduction to the vast landscapes and stopping to watch any wildlife you encounter along the way.
Check-in. Settle into your comfortable accommodation and enjoy a delicious lunch and relaxing time. In the afternoon, head off on a game drive.
Have an afternoon to sunset game drive.
Transfer back to the camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Game drives in Samburu National Reserve & Cultural Village Visit to Samburu people
Start your day with an invigorating early morning game drive through the reserve, followed by a hearty breakfast back at camp. Spend the rest of the morning relaxing at your leisure. Savor a delicious lunch before heading out for an exciting afternoon game drive that extends into sunset. Return for a delightful dinner and an overnight stay at the camp.
Depending on what you feel like, we have a range of activities to keep you occupied (at an extra cost):
Optional Activity, Visit Reteti Sanctuary. Reteti takes in orphaned and abandoned elephant calves with an aim to release them back into the wild herds adjoining the Sanctuary.
Optional Activity, Bush Breakfast, Enjoy a delicious breakfast in the bush after your early morning game drive. Spend mid-morning at leisure exploring the camp’s facilities.
Cultural Village Visit and take a glimpse into traditional Samburu life. Find yourself in the midst of the daily hustle and bustle of local life as you witness the daily rituals of the Samburu people. Once you have drunk your fill of this authentic cultural experience, you can choose to browse through their Craft Centre and purchase artefacts made by the people you encountered. All proceeds from this go directly to the community.
Day 4: Fly to Maasai Mara National Reserve
This morning, after your final breakfast, you will be driven to the airport for your flight to the Masai Mara. On arrival, a guide from the camp will meet you at the airstrip and then game-drive you back to camp, offering the perfect introduction to the vast savannah plains and stopping to watch any wildlife you encounter along the way. Check-in. Settle into your comfortable accommodation and enjoy a delicious lunch and relaxing time. In the afternoon, head off on a game drive to search for big cats and other captivating wildlife. Transfer back to the camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Full day Game drives and more captivating big cat wildlife
A full day Maasai Mara game drive offers an incredible opportunity to explore the vast plains of the Mara and witness the diverse wildlife. Starting early in the morning, the game drive takes you through the various habitats of the park, including grasslands, woodlands, and riverine forests, where you can spot predators like lions, leopards, and cheetahs. You’ll also have the chance to see herds of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles as they graze and migrate across the savannah. Along the way, your experienced guide will provide fascinating insights into the wildlife and their behaviors.
For an even more unforgettable experience, you can opt for a hot air balloon safari, where you can soar above the Mara and witness the stunning landscapes and wildlife from a bird’s eye view. This experience offers a unique perspective and a chance to see the Mara from a different angle.
Day 6: Hot air balloon safari & Guided Masai Cultural Village Visit
For a particularly memorable and unforgettable experience, enjoy a surreal journey in a hot air balloon safari, (please note that this is an extra cost), over the Masai Mara plains. This adventure begins just before dawn; depart the camp to the Balloon Safaris take off. The fabulous sunrise flight lasts approximately one hour depending on weather conditions. On landing, sit down to a delicious bush breakfast, freshly cooked on balloon burners in the middle of the Mara plains. Toast your return to Mother Earth together with your pilot over a glass of sparkling wine. Game drive back to your camp.
Enjoy your camp’s shared morning and afternoon activities and explore the Masai Mara with an experienced guide. The area is home to a magnificent variety of wildlife, including good populations of lion, leopard, cheetah, herds of elephant and buffalo, and much more. Spend your safari days on game drives, walking safaris, or cultural visits to the local Maasai communities.

Day 7: Fly to Nairobi and connect to your flight to Lamu
After a hearty breakfast, you’ll be transferred to the airstrip for your morning flight to Nairobi. Upon arrival in Nairobi, you’ll connect to your onward flight to Lamu. There, you’ll be greeted and transferred to your hotel by boat, arriving in time for lunch. The rest of the day will be at leisure.
Day 8: Enjoy a full day at your leisure.

Day 10: Fly into Nairobi & Departure – End of safari
