Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi, Karibu Kenya & Transfer to Ol Pejeta Conservancy
Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will be welcomed by our Nyumbu Beyond Journeys safari guide who will brief you about your entire Kenyan Safari!
Your journey begins with a scenic drive north from Nairobi to Ol Pejeta Conservancy, one of East Africa’s leading wildlife reserves and a shining example of conservation success. You’ll arrive at your luxury lodge in time for lunch and a bit of rest before heading out on an afternoon game drive across the conservancy’s open plains. Keep watch for lions, elephants, giraffes, and herds of plains game, all set against the dramatic backdrop of Mount Kenya.
Day 2: Conservation & Big Five Encounters – Ol Pejeta Conservancy
Early in morning after breakfast, you’ll visit the Sweetwater’s Chimpanzee Sanctuary, the only one of its kind in Kenya were rescued chimps now live-in safety. You’ll continue to the rhino sanctuary for a moving encounter with Baraka, the blind black rhino, and the last two remaining northern white rhinos on Earth. In the afternoon, you’ll enjoy another expertly guided game drive as you explore this Big Five reserve and return to your lodge for a peaceful evening under the stars.
Day 3: Journey to Lake Nakuru National Park
After breakfast, you’ll depart Ol Pejeta and head south into the heart of the Great Rift Valley toward Lake Nakuru National Park. Upon arrival, you’ll check into your elegant lodge with views over the lake or forest, followed by lunch and a short rest. In the afternoon, you’ll embark on a game drive through this compact yet wildlife-rich park, where flamingos, rhinos, giraffes, and elusive leopards await.
Day 4: Full day Guided game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park
Embark on a thrilling Lake Nakuru Game Drive in Lake Nakuru National Park, known for its breathtaking flocks of lesser flamingoes that paint the lake pink. Enjoy lunch enroute before indulging in an afternoon game drive where you may spot a variety of animals including Thompson’s and Grant’s Gazelle, the elusive long-eared leaf-nosed bat, Columbus monkey, Rock Hyrax, Hippo, Leopard, Lion, Rhino, Waterbuck, Impala, Gazelle, Striped Hyena, Bat-eared fox, Wildcat, Reedbuck, and Golden cat. The Park has been restocked with an array of mammal species including Lion, Black and White Rhino, and the endangered Rothschild’s Giraffe. Don’t miss out on this incredible wildlife watching opportunity at Lake Nakuru!
You’ll watch as flocks of pelicans take off from the lake’s edge, keep an eye out for tree-climbing lions, and enjoy sweeping views from Baboon Cliff. After a fulfilling day, you’ll return to your lodge for a candlelit dinner and the calming sounds of nature all around.
Day 5: Journey to the famous Masai Mara National Reserve
After breakfast, you’ll journey across the scenic Rift Valley and through rural Kenya en route to the legendary Masai Mara. Along the way, you’ll enjoy a picnic lunch or stop for local flavors before arriving at your luxury tented camp in the heart of the reserve. You’ll unwind with afternoon tea. Then, you’ll head out for a sunset game drive to start your Mara experience with the golden savannah glowing in evening light.
Day 6: Golden Plains & Endless Skies, the Full Day Maasai Mara Experience
A full day Maasai Mara game drive offers an incredible opportunity to explore the vast plains of the Mara and witness the diverse wildlife. Starting early in the morning, the game drive takes you through the various habitats of the park, including grasslands, woodlands, and riverine forests, where you can spot predators like lions, leopards, and cheetahs. You’ll also have the chance to see herds of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles as they graze and migrate across the savannah. Along the way, your experienced guide will provide fascinating insights into the wildlife and their behaviors.
For an even more unforgettable experience, you can opt for a hot air balloon safari, where you can soar above the Mara and witness the stunning landscapes and wildlife from a bird’s eye view. This experience offers a unique perspective and a chance to see the Mara from a different angle.
Day 7: Hot air balloon safari & Guided Masai Cultural Village Visit
For a particularly memorable and unforgettable experience, enjoy a surreal journey in a hot air balloon safari (please note that this is an extra cost), over the Masai Mara plains. This adventure begins just before dawn; depart the camp to the Balloon Safaris take off. The fabulous sunrise flight lasts approximately one hour depending on weather conditions. On landing, sit down to a delicious bush breakfast, freshly cooked on balloon burners in the middle of the Mara plains. Toast your return to Mother Earth together with your pilot over a glass of sparkling wine. Game drive back to your camp.
Enjoy your camp’s shared morning and afternoon activities and explore the Masai Mara with an experienced guide. The area is home to a magnificent variety of wildlife, including good populations of lion, leopard, cheetah, herds of elephant and buffalo, and much more. Spend your safari days on game drives, walking safaris, or cultural visits to the local Maasai communities.
Later in the afternoon embark on a Cultural Village Visit and take a glimpse into traditional Maasai life. Find yourself in the midst of the daily hustle and bustle of local life as you witness the daily rituals of the Maasai. Once you have drunk your fill of this authentic cultural experience, you can choose to browse through the Maasai Craft Centre and purchase artifacts made by the people you encountered. All proceeds from this go directly to the community.
Day 8: Farewell to the Wilderness and Return to Nairobi
You’ll enjoy breakfast with views of the savannah before departing the Masai Mara for your return journey to Nairobi. Take in the last sights of wildlife along the way and reflect on the unforgettable moments of the past week.
Upon arrival in Nairobi, you’ll be dropped off at your hotel or the international airport, where your journey concludes. Though the safari ends, the memories and the magic of Kenya will stay with you always.
