Detailed itinerary.
Day 1: Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport—road transfer to hotel in Arusha.
The journey begins! When you arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be greeted by your VIP driver-guide. You will then be driven in a private luxury vehicle to your five-star hotel in Arusha, which is a quiet city that is the gateway to many of Tanzania’s famous national parks. After you settle in, you can rest, relax, and recover from your flight by enjoying the hotel’s great garden, swimming pool, or spa.
That evening you will meet informally with your professional mountain guide for a comprehensive full briefing to clarify the trek program. The guide will check your climbing gear, provide a detailed overview of the manner of trekking, and go over the safety and acclimatization nature of the trek. After the briefing, your group will be treated to a gourmet dinner and a taste of some of the best cuisine of Tanzania before retiring for the evening.
Day 2: Discover Arusha National Park.
On the second day of the safari, wake up and enjoy breakfast. You’ll have a relaxing day in Arusha National Park before heading to Kilimanjaro, which is another hidden gem of Tanzania. After breakfast, you will have a private guided tour of the park combining a walking safari and a game viewing drive. In this park you will see giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, flamingos, and the playful black-and-white colobus monkeys.
Your guide will lead you through the lush forests and open plains with views of Mount Meru in the background. This hike is intended to begin acclimating your body to the higher altitudes and get you used to the scenic nature of Tanzania. After some time in the park, you will return to your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay before your climb begins the following day.
Day 3: Lemosho Gate (2,100 m) to Big Tree Camp (2,780 m).
After breakfast, you will drive to Lemosho Gate on the western side of Mount Kilimanjaro, which is, without a doubt, the scenically prettiest route to the mountain. This drive takes you through rolling hills, farms, and small villages. After you register at the park, the climb begins in Stewart’s general direction through a colorful rainforest full of birds and colobus monkeys soaring through the trees.
The hike is gentle but gradual and gives you time to soak up the tranquil surroundings as you ascend. In the late afternoon you will arrive at Big Tree Camp, where your Private VIP camp is prepared with large sleeping tents, thick mattresses, and even portable washrooms. Just before you settle in for the night, you will enjoy a warm dinner prepared by your private chef, as the sounds of the forest lull you to sleep.
Day 4: Big Tree Camp to Shira 1 Camp (3500m).
On the 4th day of the safari, get up and enjoy breakfast. We leave the forest today and enter the heather and moorland zone, where tall trees fade into expansive views. The air gets cooler and the terrain gets a little steeper, but the pace will be nice and slow, set by your experienced guide. Along the way, we stop for a picnic lunch and enjoy our first views of Kibo Peak, the main summit of Kilimanjaro, as we take a break.
In the afternoon we arrive at Shira Camp 1, which sits on the edge of the flat, vast Shira Plateau, with beautiful views of the mountain from here. After being served a warm meal, our team will set up your evening so you can enjoy the sundown views over the African plains below.
Day 5: Shira 1 Camp to Moir Camp (4,200 m).
After an early breakfast, you will continue along the trek across a part of the Shira Plateau, one of Kilimanjaro’s most enjoyable and scenic regions. The trail is easy-going and the route crosses ancient lava formations and moorland with giant lobelias and senecios. After lunch at Shira 2 Camp, you will head directly upwards to Moir Camp, located beneath a large volcanic ridge. This higher altitude camp is a great place to acclimatize. In the evening you can take a short acclimatization hike onto the ridge for beautiful views of the entire Shira Plateau and even as far away as Mount Meru. Dinner will be served in your private dining tent, where you can relax before bedtime in your tent.
Day 6: Moir Camp to Barranco Camp (3,960 m).
Today you will climb higher and towards Lava Tower (4,600 m). This dramatic rock formation is an important acclimatization point. The air becomes thinner and the terrain becomes more rugged, and while this will be our slowest-paced day to be comfortable, it will help our acclimatization as well. You’ll have lunch at Lava Tower and descend into Barranco Valley, filled with unique vegetation and fresh mountain streams.
By late afternoon you will reach Barranco Camp just below the Barranco Wall—considered one of the most well-known attractions on the mountain. From camp, views will be spectacular views of the glaciers and cliffs that tower above. You will have dinner and will spend the night in a luxurious tent setup.
Day 7: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp (4035m).

Today will start by climbing up the Barranco Wall. This is a steep climb but enjoyable with some of the best views on Kilimanjaro. After you reach the top, you will walk through rolling terrain and small valleys, reaching Karanga Camp, a quiet area for rest and to acclimatize.
You will arrive in time for a hot lunch and you will spend the afternoon resting, hydrating and preparing for the following day’s ascension. In the evening, you will have a gourmet dinner under the stars and wind down in order to rest your weary bones for an early night.
Day 8: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp (4673m).
After breakfast, you rise to ascend towards Barafu Camp, the final base before your summit attempt. The terrain gets rocky and barren, as if you were on the surface of the moon. You will be walking slowly to save your energy for the climb to the top.
By early afternoon, you’ll arrive at Barafu Camp to find your crew has set up everything complete with your luxury tents, warm drinks, and hot meal. Your guide will provide a detailed briefing, after which you will enter a restful period and focus on the final challenge: the midnight ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa.
