Detailed Itinerary

DAY 1; Arrival Entebbe , Karibu Uganda!

Your Nyumbu Beyond Journey begins! As soon as your touchdown at Entebbe International Airport, a private transfer will take you to your lodge in Entebbe. Depending on your time of arrival, you may explore the tropical lake town of Entebbe or simply relax before the real action begins.

This evening, you will enjoy a welcome dinner accompanied by your Nyumbu Beyond Safaris guide. This will be your time to get excited and informed of the adventures to come. If you have a late arrival, we will arrange that you have a late transfer and be briefed the following morning.

DAY 2 – MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK

Today we hit the road and begin the real Nyumbu Beyond Safari! After driving alongside the bustling city of Kampala – Capital City of Uganda – we will head north through the rural parts of Uganda’s lush green landscapes. Along the way, we will stop at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, home to Uganda’s only wild rhinos and an ongoing conservation project. There, you’ll have the chance to track the wild rhinos at close range. From Ziwa, we’ll continue our journey arriving at Murchison Falls National Park by lunchtime.

We will enjoy a safari en-route to the shores of the Nile River. From this point, we jump on a boat and cruise towards the base of the mighty Murchison Falls. The 2-hour boat safari along the Nile offers great sightings of elephants, hippos and the infamous Nile crocodiles.

The boat cruise takes us as close as possible to the thunderous falls. From this point, we will jump onto mainland, where professional rangers will guide us on a wilderness trail towards the top of the Murchison Falls.

This trek culminates in arriving at the point where the world’s longest river pushes through a six-meter gap in the earth; the shear thunder is one of the major highlights on its 6,650 km journey up to Egypt. After being sprayed by the falls raging mist, we will then take a short drive to our lodge situated overlooking the Nile River.

DAY 3: Guided Game drive  & Chimpanzee trekking in Bundongo forest 

Today we embark on a morning safari on the Northern Banks of Murchison Falls. The park is home to 4 of the ‘big 5’ and the rare Rothschild Giraffe. The luminescent green landscape is also home to thousands of antelopes that live amongst the towering palm trees that straddle the Nile River.

After a successful morning safari, we will then set off for a real bucket list activity. Arriving at the Budongo Forests, we will enjoy a trekking experience in search of the ‘almost human’ Chimpanzees. Once we have located the group, we will enjoy a full hour in amongst the family. We will observe them as they feed, groom, play and create sounds that resonate across the forest.

DAY 4 – VOLCANIC CRATER LAKES

Today we will continue our journey south through many local villages and towns. We will be meandering through luminescent green tea plantations and the towering Kibale Forest, the perfect home for East Africa’s primates.

We will stop for lunch in the bustling town of Fort Portal. This afternoon, we will be driving in amongst the extraordinarily formed volcanic crater lakes. Our lodge for the night will be alongside the Kibale National Park.

DAY 5: Visit the Bigodi community & Crater drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park 

This morning starts off with a guided walk in the Bigodi Swamps, famous for its unique fauna and flora. The swamp is a network of paths and boardwalks giving you the opportunity to see eight different primate species, colorful birdlife and many small unique creatures. The walk will be guided by a qualified ranger allowing you to learn and enjoy the complex wetland.

After the morning walk, we will enjoy an authentic home-cooked lunch and be treated to some of Uganda’s local delicacies. Once refueled and refreshed, we will drive between the volcanic crater lakes and along the base of the Rwenzori mountain range. Known as the ‘mountains of the moon’, these massive mountains rise to 5,109 meters above sea level. During the scenic drive, we will be crossing over from the Northern Hemisphere into the Southern Hemisphere.

 DAY 6 : Guided game drive & Kazinga channel Boat Cruise 

Today on the 6th day of 14 Days Discover Ultimate Uganda Safari by Nyumbu Beyond Safaris, we will enjoy a leisurely breakfast overlooking The Queen Elizabeth National Park.

From our lodge, we will drive to the starting point for a midday two-hour boat safari along the Kazinga Channel. The channel is famous for its close sightings of hippo, crocodile, buffalo and elephant.

We then head off on an afternoon safari in the Kasenyi Plains. This area is home to massive herds of the local Ugandan Kobs – the perfect meal for the prides of lion that follow. Today’s safari offers beautiful photographic opportunities due to the mighty Rwenzori mountains creating a perfect backdrop.

DAY 7 – QUEEN ELIZABETH NP – ISHASHA

Today we head for the Southern Sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Once we reach the Southern Sector, we will enjoy a safari along the Ishasha plains. The area is famous for its tree climbing lions and occasionally we may even find the elusive leopard.

DAY 8: Transfer game drive in the Ishasha plains to Bwindi impenetrable forest 

Today, we will enjoy a final safari before heading for the mountains.

We will be searching the Ishasha Plains and the giant fig trees to have yet another chance at seeing the sought-after tree climbing lions.

We will then make our way towards the South-Western Hills of Uganda, past lakes and forests en-route to the town of Kisoro, bordering both the DRC and Rwanda.

DAY 9 – MGAHINGA NATIONAL PARK

Today you have a few options (all of which are included).

If you are fit and brave, you have the option to take on one of Africa’s giants and go for a full day hike up one of the three volcanoes in Mgahinga National Park (The Virunga’s). The largest standing at 4,127 meters.

All the three hikes offer their own unique uniqueness. Two of them not being for the faint hearted and being known for some seriously strenuous ascents and descents. You will be accompanied by park rangers who will guide you up the ‘African ladders’ all the way to the top. The views over Rwanda, The DRC and various crater lakes are rewarding sight after the long trek to the summit.

Golden Monkey

For those who would prefer, there are two other options within Mgahinga National Park: Golden Monkey Tracking or The Batwa Experience. They are both exceptional activities taking around half a day whilst allowing for some downtime in the afternoon.

DAY 10 : Visit the Batwa Pygmies 

Today on the 10th day of the 14 Days Discover Ultimate Uganda Safari by Nyumbu Beyond Safaris ,we will enjoy a relaxed morning.

For those still feeling active, you may enjoy an authentic canoeing experience on beautiful Lake Mutanda. The canoes are traditional wooden canoes still used by locals offering some interesting moments watching your friends get the hang of the ‘Mzungu Corkscrew’.

From here, we will drive deep into the mountains of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and arrive at a lodge perfectly located for the bucket list activity you have all been waiting for!

DAY 11 – GORILLA TRACKING IN BWINDI IMPENETRABLE

Today is the day! Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The park is home to more than half the world’s Mountain Gorilla population and the perfect place to discover these amazing creatures.

After meeting your qualified rangers, you will begin your jungle trek in search of these extremely rare Mountain Gorillas. The trek is in a beautiful lush green rain forest filled with many interesting animals and birds. The highly trained guides will be there to answer all your questions and keep you safe on this memorable journey.

Once you have located the gorillas, you will have a full hour to enjoy being in amongst the family.

The full gorilla tracking experience is dependent on the gorilla’s location but can be anything from two hours up to a full day. Either way, it is special knowing you are tracking their wild movements.

This evening, we enjoy a dinner overlooking the forest while sharing photos and stories of the unbelievable experiences from the day.

DAY 12 – BWINDI FOREST TO LAKE MBURO NATIONAL PARK

Today we head towards Lake Mburo National Park passing lakes, rolling hills, markets and villages. We will take a detour on route along the second deepest lake in Africa – Lake Bunyonyi. The lake is famous for its beautiful scenery and its 29 small islands.

For lunch, we will stop at a cultural centre to try any local delicacies that you may not have encountered on other parts of the trip.

After feeling refueled and refreshed, we will be guided through the Igongo Cultural Museum to learn more about the Ugandan local cultures and ways of life.

Tonight, we will stay alongside the Lake Mburo National Park.

DAY 13 – LAKE MBURO – EQUATOR – ENTEBBE

Today we will enjoy a guided mountain bike ride through the savannah plains alongside Lake Mburo National Park. We will be riding through wilderness areas and are likely to encounter Zebra, Impala, Eland and other animals not found in other parts of Uganda. We will also be introduced to the sacred Ankole Cattle and get the opportunity to take some amazing pictures of these fascinating long horned animals.

After the morning’s activity, we will head for Entebbe. Our final stopover for the day will be the Equator, where we will enjoy lunch and have the opportunity to have either foot on the Northern and Southern Hemisphere.

After the amazing mix of bucket list adventures and off the beaten track experiences, we will make our way back to Entebbe.

DAY 14 – ENTEBBE

Today, we will enjoy a final breakfast and say our goodbyes.

If you are flying out today, we will transfer you from the lodge to Entebbe International Airport.
